Where do you work?
Tokyo, Japan.
Describe what you do.
While I’m serving as a missionary pastor of Dendoukan Christ Church in Tokyo, I teach creationism to pastors and congregations in Japan. I also provide daily devotionals via the internet, and the worship service on Sundays can be viewed live from anywhere in the world. I also have Bible studies at two locations each month that anyone can participate in. I organize various programs (Bird watching, Golden Age Club, Baking cakes, fishing, flower viewing, dumpling night, etc.) as an evangelistic tool for believers to invite friends and always give an evangelistic message. Discipleship training is basically for the teens of the church, and we have 10 people in the program.
Why did you choose your ministry? What led you to that ministry?
I didn't mean to become a missionary at first. I was a believer but wanted to pursue my passion for jazz music. With an American dream in one hand and airplane tickets in the other, I had sold all my belongings and was ready to come to Michigan. That’s when I got a rejection letter from the school since they found out I didn’t speak English. I ended up in Schroon Lake, NY where Word of Life was. One of the founders of Word of life, Harry Bollback, found me and gave me a job and allowed me to go to the Bible school. Upon graduation Harry encouraged me to be a missionary. He told me to go on deputation. I asked what that was. He said, “You go around churches and preach the gospel and invite people to support your work in Japan.” I immediately said, “No, I can’t. I have never even preached in my mother tongue.” To that, he said, “No, you can’t. BUT GOD CAN.” That’s when I surrendered my life to become a missionary. It has been 40 years since then.
When did you make the decision to serve in missions - how old were you?
I made the decision to dedicate my life as a missionary at the age of 32.
Why did you decide on serving in this way? Why missions?
While I was at Word of Life Bible Institute, I saw the power of summer camp. I watched many teens make decisions to believe in Jesus and it moved me deeply. My heart strongly believed that such a miracle would surely happen in Japan.
Have you had other occupations?
I worked for a Fabric Company in Tokyo for 5 years.
Hobbies or other interests?
Bird watching and I bake cakes every week. I also like to ride a Road Bike and jogging.
Your favorite sport? Favorite team?
Baseball, soccer, and boxing. In baseball, I am a fan of the Tokyo Yomiuri Giants, and in the U.S., I am a fan of Shohei Ohtani of the Angels
